Principal's Message

The Academy of Innovation was established in 2020-2021 as Hemet Unified School District's most current independent study option.  Our K-12 independent program provides greater flexibility to our students in all grade levels. AOI provides the opportunity for students to take courses online in grades 1-12 and in-person for grades K-12.  Our teachers, staff, and administration are well-versed in the independent study and online education worlds and have years of experience providing unique educational opportunities for students seeking alternative options.

Students in grades K-5 engage in schoolwork daily with their teachers.  Middle school students (grades 6-8) have two days of instruction either online or in-person with the option for teacher support five days a week.  High School students receive two days of instruction and work independently the other three days of the week.  In all grades, a fully-credentialed California teacher engages students with the same curriculum as at other HUSD schools.

Wednesdays are enrichment days at AOI.  On Wednesday STEAM days we offer activities for our K-8 students that reinforce core curriculum standards and provide opportunities for students to have peer and staff interactions.

High school students at the Academy of Innovation can choose between electives through Edgenuity (self-contained online courses), online electives with a teacher such as personal finance, child development, Spanish, or music appreciation, or can opt to come to campus on our Wednesday elective day to take courses such as CTE Art, ASB, yearbook, or guitar.  High school students can also still take part in extracurricular sports and programs at their home site while attending classes at AOI.

If you are interested in attending The Academy of Innovation and have questions about how we can make our program(s) work for you, please reach out to the school site. We pride ourselves on being able to say "yes" to students and families looking for an alternative educational path.
